France reduces VAT to encourage eating out

British travellers will be able to dine and drink for less in France this summer, after the French government approved a VAT cut.

The new VAT rate of 5.5% (previously 19.6%) comes into force on July 1 and means that French restaurateurs and café owners can reduce the cost of meals by about 10 per cent.
