Question Condensation

Hi, New to forum.

Can anyone help me?

I have a 8 man khyam tent and at the weekend spent two nights with my son and husband in one large bedroom. throughout the night we felt really clammy and damp.

We have vents on the inner tent which we kept closed throughout the day and night. On the outside of the tent we have a vent which we kept open all day and all night, this vent has guy ropes that keep it fixed.

I feel that I should have opened the vents on the doors between the bedroom and the living area throughout the day so that the bedroom can air and closed these late afternoon and also closed the outer vents until the morning to prevent the damp from coming in. Am I right?

Please help, Thank you

I know it's a while since you posted this so I hope you resolved your issues with condensation. In any case you probably know by now that your inside vents should be open too. In fact, I advocate opening all your doors inside and out to give the tent a really good airing first thing in the morning. It will help if you take out the sleeping bags, open them right up and air them out over the top of the car or a fence (if it's dry, obviously). There is always a little bit of 'housekeeping' needed to be done in a tent and I see the airing out of the tent as one of those little daily chores.

Default condensation

Best to keep all vents open 24 hours. Condensation is moisture in the air meeting a cold surface. We can't stop breathing, which creates the moist air, and it's pointless trying to keep a tent warm enough to dry it out. So use through ventilation to dispel moist air. Hope that helps. D.
