Hello!
There are so many fantastic camping sites in the netherlands that you really are spoilt for choice. My advice would be first to choose an area, do you also want to visit Amsterdam/other towns or is it just a beach holiday you want? For a beach/cyling holiday the area of Zeeland (in the south and easily accessible from Zeebrugge/Calais) is wonderful. This area gets more sunshine than the north of the country. Another possibility is the island of Texel (in the north and acessible only by a half hour ferry journey - costs roughly 90 euro return with caravan). Texel has super beaches, lots of cycle paths, golf, and plenty of good restaurants. There are 2 bigger villages and several pretty small ones. We like the location De Cocksdorp, the most northerly village - there are 2 big camping sites there De Krim (large but well divided into smaller areas so you don't feel the size of the place) or Landal Green Parks Slufter Valley (smaller with lovely sites in the dunes and a small indoor swimming pool). If you want to do more city sightseeing then there are also lots of possibilites along the north sea coast above amsterdam. The dutch love camping and the sites reflect this - most sites are well thought out, amazingly well kept and offer all conveniences. Bear in mind when booking: The first weekend in June 2010 is a bank holiday - it will be full everywhere. After that there should be no problem finding a site until the dutch school holidays start - usually the first weekend in July. My advice would be don't book but get names from the internet and choose when you arrive. As a german saying goes: the dutch have camping sites like sand at the seaside( ie thousands of them)! Enjoy your holiday. Greetings from Cologne |

Hello Maz,
Zeeland really is great. If you don't mind being away from the beach (about 3km) we can recommend Camping De Pekeling close to Oostkapelle. Also good and value for money but without many facilities is a Mini Camping on the edge of Vrouwenpolder - Elzenoord. From here it's a 15 min walk to a fantastic beach with something for everyone and a short stroll into the village with a large supermarket. The most touristy area is Domburg - avoid Hof Domburg. It's run by a chain - unfriendly, not that clean - the swimming pool looks good on the net but my children found it very dirty. The prices were also high: for chips and a soft drink for 4 we paid over 20 euros! If you'd like anymore infos, let us know. Greetings from Cologne. |

Hello Maz!
Thanks for your message. I'm english in cologne, have been here for the past 17 years. My husband is german and our 2 children were born here. We love touring around europe in our caravan so we don't get over to England that often. By the way, spring 2010 we plan to have our caravan in Zeeland for 3 months so we can spend Easter and the spring bank holidays there. The site we have chosen (via internet) is very small. It's called De Boshoek and is situated in an orchard on a working farm with ponies. It's between Vrouwenpolder and Serooskerke. I didn't recommend it because we haven't visited yet but if time allows we will do a recki (?) in september. I'll let you know how we get on. Enjoy planning your trip, I sometimes think that's the best part! Greetings from Cologne: ![]() |

Hello Maz,
we stayed at elzenoord over the whitsun weekend. It was quiet and the new shower block was always clean. The position is excellent. Vrouwenpolder is a small village with a few shops and restaurants. One large supermarket of good quality does a great trade with all the holiday makers. The beach attracts a lot of kite-surfers but they're further over and there's lots of room for everyone. Dutch beaches are divided up into paals - there are signs at the entrances with a map and explanations. Dogs are not allowed on all sections in high season and some are for nudists. I found an address with a long list of the small camping sites in Zeeland. It's in Dutch but if you click on the name, you get sent to the homepage and then most have english translations: www.zeeland.kamperen-minicamping.nl Try it out! Another address to try is: www.zouteland.info. Zouteland is on the southfacing side of Zeeland. Friends of ours camp there every easter and always come back tanned. They use Camping Meerpaal but there are lots of others close by. We wanted to visit Camping Weltvreden but had to cancel because of illness. The man on reception who took my call was horribly rude and unfriendly and said I could have foreseen being ill! Greetings from Cologne. |

Hello Maz,
we were at Orangezon in spring (just looking, sizing it up for the future.) As dog owners I think it might suit you well. The site is 1200 metres from a lovely beach. To get there you walk through a nature reserve. I did the walk in about 15 minutes. It was pretty and only difficult if you have to carry lots of beach equipment. The site itself seemed well kept and there was a small open air pool. Across the road was a large restaurant/beer garden that looked very welcoming. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. We didn't book because they had a fixed date at the end for the year for allocating the seasonal places and we wanted to fix up something quickly. I didn't look at the toilet blocks but that's not usually a problem in holland. The nearest supermarket is probably the one I mentioned before in Vrouwenpolder. I hope you have a good time - remember to take some sort of wind shelter for the beach. Enjoy your holiday. Greetings from Cologne |
