Default Loire Valley, France

I just wondered if anyone could recommend a good campsite in the Loire Valley area of France. I have noticed one in a village called Coutures, between Angers and Saumer. The name of the campsite is Parc de Montsabert. I'd welcome any advice.

There are a couple of very nice sites in Saumur, just across the river from the town. Close enough to be able to walk to the town and visit the places of interest, like the Chateau and the Horse Academy. The town itself is very nice to wander around and there is a big supermarket at the end of town, Carrefour I think.

The one we have stayed at several times is on an island in the river

We stayed at IsleD'Offard in June. It is a much improved site and I can recommend it. It is quieter down towards the bottom end. Two good big supermarkets nearby and you can walk into town in 20 minutes.
If you want to know anything else let me know

Another excellent one is at Montsoreau about 10 minutes from Saumur towards chinon. It backs onto river also and is up the road from the chateau of Montsoreau and the beautiful village of Candes
Also recommended.

Ouside Saumur the other way and on the plateau is Chantepie another lovely site.

you have plenty of choice around Saumur

Smile Château des Marais, Chambord

I can recommend the Château des Marais campsite, particularly for families. It has a fabulous pool complex with 2 or 3 pools (including 1 under cover) and a lazy river. In summer the campsite organise various tours. We did an evening visit to a local dairy farm with vineyard. It's close to Chambord, which is a magnificent chateau, and within driving reach of many more.

I agree that there are so many great sites in the Loire. I like Camping Les Saules - very friendly and a site which has been much improved in recent years. Also, very handy for the chateau at Cheverny

We stayed at Parc de Montsabert a few weeks ago and just loved it despite breaking my leg 10 minutes after arriving. Everyone was very helpful although I wouldn't recommend breaking a leg while on a caravan holiday. We usually stay on C.L’s in England and couldn’t find similar small quiet sites in the Loire area so we were not sure if we would enjoy this type of site. It was fantastic. It had a large pool which had a moveable cover plus a toddlers’ pool both over looked by a patio bar / simple restaurant. Trampolines and play area plus organised children’s activities each day. They also had a gym, tennis courts and football pitch.

The park was in a woodland setting with large pitches separated by hedges and was immaculately kept. Peacocks from the neighbouring châteaux visited every morning which could have been annoying if they cried out near your pitch. The surrounding gently rolling country side was made up of fields of sunflowers, corn and vineyards and was excellent for cycling (hired from the site).

The site was mainly occupied by Dutch and some French with a balance of tents and caravans. At 10.30 pm everyone observed the silence rule except the crickets and the owls. I loved our pitch – 151 as it was on the edge of the site overlooking the fields with hot air balloons floating by each evening. We are definitely going back.

Default Camping Parc de Montsabert

eccles,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune so soon after arriving at the site.
I have spoken to some friends who stayed here some years ago. Apparently back then there was a good balance of nationalities and some entertainment for adults twice weekly. An example would have been a Traditional meal evening, visiting circus, French Music. I just wondered if there was any entertainment for adults in the evenings, or if it was a complete 'lights out' situation every night, by 10.30pm. Thank you, Eton
