I am looking at camping in France this summer and i am rather dubious at driving for the first time in France, could anyone recommend a campsite that is close to a ferry port but would suit a 13yr old ( kevin type teenager ), 9 yr old girl and a 4yr old boy. As it is also the first time camping for my wife she is concerned about the washing facilities so a clean campsite would be a must.

Hi Dan
If you can tell me which ferry crossing you will bre using I can try to help you. I've seen a lot of French campsites over the years Cheers Lois |

Hi Lois
It will be probably be Portsmouth to St Malo, the reason i am looking for one near a port is because it would be my first time driving abroad. However if there is a particular campsite that you can recommend that is further away but not to difficult to get too and is near a farmers market (its a personal dream to go to a french market) regards dan |

Hi Dan
I think you might enjoy Camping Municipal la Hallerais due south of St Malo (32kilometers.). It is just outside the medieval town of Dinan and you can walk along the riverside from the campsite past the little port up into the town. Its a real experience you will find markets and all sorts. There was a medieval fair and jousting once when we were there. Be prepared for up and down walking, the site is terraced above the river with trees and hedged. There is a bar restaurant and a pool. Some municipal sites are quite simple this one has all the amenities. If I can help any more let me know. Look it up on the Alan Rogers web site. Site No 22100 Cheers Lois PS Don't worry about driving in France. You will be amazed how easily you get use to it. ![]() |
