Any Advice on European touring Welcome

we are planning a 4 - 6 month european caravan tour starting next May, probably starting in northern spain, has anyone got any advice on good sites, hints and tips on different countries etc !! we hope to do as much as we can in the time we`ve got, all comments welcome as we are new to caravanning Thanks simon

Hi simon,if you are travelling in France you must have visual jackets(yellow)on show in your car(90-130E fine ifnot) 2 point pin hookup,spare light bulbs and GB sticker.Not sure about spain.Happy travelling.

Hello Simon,

despite the EU there are different rules and regulations all through Europe! We are members of the ADAC, the german AA. They send members free information packs for travelling and caravaning in Europe: infos about speed limits, what you should have in the car, insurance, petrol prices etc. They also do great info sheets with the sightseeing tips for a particular country or region. Perhaps the AA or RAC provides similar information? I envy you having so much time to explore but can't really give much advice without some rough idea of where you want to go and what kind of site (quiet, cheap, pools????) you prefer.

Hi,

When touring the gas regulators etc are different, it is always good to have two different gas bottles (Spanish is different from France as is the UK). Check out Gaslow for Euro regulators etc.

TIP - you can pick up empty gas bottles cheaper at the local markets in Spain, then get them refilled/changed at campsites or garages. We prefer propane RED bottle. NB. Some sites charge extra for electricity, especially during the winter season. 4amps per day will only run the fridge, eve TV, Lights and if your lucky a little heating. We use gas for heating water & warm air heating & cooking, works out cheaper than paying the additional elec costs, if you are on a long stay.

Site FEES - Discounts apply after 3 -7 days, the longer you stay the more economical it is. However, as you are touring, a good card to get when touring is Acsi, if you have short stop overs then this is when it comes into it's own, as you then know approx it will be eg 15E per night instead of 25+ in some areas. Leaves more funds for those many fine resaurants & shopping!

ACSI is a Netherlands Camping Association, they inspect and report on many sites across Europe and have negotiated a deal with some to allow standard charges for the nights stay + electric + shower, savings vary but generally the cost of the card can be recovered quite easily.
You have to buy the book listing the sites and the card is included

The books are often in short supply after about June each year

another good system is the Municipal Sites, run by the local council and usually handy for the town

Some sites electricity to charge extra, especially in winter. Every day four Amps only run the refrigerator, TV on the eve of lighting, if you're lucky a little bit of heat.
