Default Sleeping in Awnings?

Hi as we are new to Caravaning can someone please offer any advice on the following:
We have booked our first trip in August with our little two berth caravan, and being our first trip out, our two 15 year old boys have decided to come with us. We have bought a full awning and a couple of pop up tents for the boys to sleep within the awning. We have booked our first site but when the booking confirmation came through it said" Awnings are accepted free of charge, but for safety they should only be used for storage purposes and NOT as part of the sleeping accomodation"

We are now very confused can anyone offer any advice and tell us if awnings are normally used for extra accomodation and for sleeping. Surely they are no different to a tent?

A confused New Tourer!
