My water pump cuts in and out unpredictably. It runs on when water is not being drawn and has to be switched off last thing at night because of a tendency to decide to start up in the middle of the night! Any suggestions?

The taps work when opened because the pressure in the system is released this causes the pump to operate. Sometimes more often than not a slight drop in the pressure will cause the pump to operate during the night in order to raise the pressure, Simply turning the pump off through the night is the answer.

I also had the same issue and have burnt out 2 pumps both replaced with no fuss by dealer. But after speaking with the technical expert he suggested I ensure all air is out of the system. Whilst I did the kitchen tap, I forgot the bedroom and shower, I did it this weekend and fingers crossed it worked, pump only came on when I turned the tap on before it ran all the time.
Only this weekend will tell away for 3 days.ps - I am very new to this caravan work but love it Pete |

You could try a quarter turn anti-clockwise on the pressure switch. Doing that probably won't make any difference to the pressure at the taps and it might just stop the pump building up the pressure so high.

One thought not mentioned so far and one I have experienced is check you do not have a small drip leak inside caravan as this can also lead to drop in preassure. this happened to me at start of this year and looked like a connection had slackened off and hose started dripping not enough to notice at first but being left and just turning off pump could have caused a very expensive repair to water ingress into floor walls etc. Luckilly when I noticed a damp patch under fridge at front ~(which at first I just thought was a spill or even melting ice) and on closer investigation eventuall founf drip under seating just next to water inlet but even in daylight was not easy to pinpoint. so my advice is instead of just turning off pump
check for leaks first and foremost |

Hi
We had this problem in our caravan and no matter how many slight adjustments every time we moved site , they made no difference. We then read of a 'surge damper', which costs about £25 from caravan dealers. It is fitted vertically into the water pipe which my husband did himself quite easily and it was an instant success. No more frustration. Chris |
