Hi, Apart from working on 12v is there any difference between a TV brought from a high street retailer and those developed for caravanning, is the power usage likely to have a higher amps rating?
I would be concerned about battery drainage, and would be very unlikely to use the 12v facility and therefore fancied buying a small 20/22" TV/DVD combo from a local retailer! |

You can use any tv if your using mains, power consumption pretty much the same across the board, but be careful, you do get what you pay for, seen some poor picture quality cheap ones, we got our from argos and wish we spent a bit more, viewing angles are worse on cheaper sets and in a small space like a caravan unless your looking nearly directly on, you lose some quality, Avtex tv's are expencive but for a reason

Many Thanks, that is pretty much what I thought, having researched a bit more, I am thinking of splashing out on Freesat, so I guess a poor picture would not be great planning, once again thanks.

Hi Gumps, we do exactly as you are thinking of doing! A flat screen with a built in DVD player and Freeserve (works through the caravan ariel) that we just chuck under the bed when we're not using it. the picture quality is excellent, it's a decent sized screen and you dont have to look up at a cupboard to watch it! I've removed the runners from the cupboard where the TV used to be and now we've got more storage space. Obviously it doesn't work when on 12 volt but, to be honest, we've always had hook up and would gladly do without it if we had to.
