Default Camping Paris region?

We are a family of four (boys 12 & 10) wanting a short (2/3 nights) camping stay not too far from Paris near the end of August. We would like to visit Versailles and possibly Parc Asterix as well as central Paris and would be travelling from Calais. We have our own tent and a car but are very short of money so the Camping International & Bois de Boulogne sites are too expensive.
Do you have any suggestions?
Would we be very stupid not to pre-book now in that area at this time of year?
Any advice gratefully received!
Thank you.

Hi Julie - you might like to consider Huttopia Versailles. It's very well located for seeing the chateau at Versailles and also has easy access to central Paris. I would think that there's a good chance that this (or other sites in the region) will have space late August without the need for booking - but I would recommed emailing the site to be sure.

Thank you for such a quick reply. It looks lovely (and would obviously be ideal) but still seems quite expensive... or is that unavoidable now?

I've been looking at this again & thinking more about the facilities (including the pool!) at the site you suggested and it's looking more & more reasonable! I think we will probably go ahead with this so thank you very much! Julie.

Default Paris

I think it's a good choice, and for a shortish holiday, not really expensive

Default Inexpensive Site near Paris

Hi.
We've been looking for a site near Paris for for a while. This one caught our eye but we haven't had a chance to visit ourselves. Camping Paris kamperen Parijs Oise St Leu dŽ Esserent camping campix
It's north of Paris, about 40km and 20km from the Asterix Park. I don't know how difficult it is to get into the heart of Paris from the site - the homepage is a bit lacking there. Hope that helps.

Default huttopia

good site for versailles palace and great train service into Paris, about a 5 minute walk to the station. Site is in a foresty area and it is pricey in relation to most other sites but thats because of where it is. The pool is a godsend if you get the weather as we did when we visited in 2008. try to arrive after 3 as site office is shut for lunch and you need an entry card to raise the barrier. There is a parking area directly outside the gate where you can wait if you arrive at the wrong time as we did lol. I would not hesitate to use this site again for convenience to paris.

Hi.
The Campix site is great if you do not want to much from site.
If you want peace and quiet in what is almost a nature reserve this was the place to be.
It has a nice little pool , a limited amount of fast food and a mini shop.
We stayed in 2009 and was pleased enough to revisit in July 2011.
Big mistake . The website mentions the pathway to the village ! unfortunately when we were there some one or more from the village used it as a path to the campsite , while they were there they rumaged at least 5 tents we know of and three including mine was slashed through the back with a knife.
A lot of items were removed various tents.
Think twice before using this site, I got the impression from the Gendarmes that this was not the first time it had happened.
Would it have made any difference if the owner had turned on the site lights ?? they were on the first night , but then were never on again ??.
